10 Reasons to Start Running and Stay Fit

You know that running is good for your health, but you are too lazy to leave your sofa alone, wear your sneakers and start running. Well maybe I can change your mind with this list of 10 things that will make you love running. So let’s get started…

1. You don’t need to learn how to run

Running is the simpliest sport there is. You don’t have to learn the rules or how to play like football or basketball. If you know how to walk (you learn that when you are a baby) then you know how to run too.

2. Say goodbye to your belly

Researchers from the University of Dublin reported that if you run about 30 minutes you are going to burn 391 calories while biking will make you burn 277 calories and playing tennis will make you burn 272 calories. So the point is that you will “drop” your belly with 40% less time exercising.

3. You will become happier

“Mild to moderate physical exercise releases endorphins that will help you to deal with stress and literally make you feel happy,” explains Andrew Mac Kalots, head researcher of the Institute of Mental Health of Great Britain.

4. You will have stronger bones

15 minutes of jogging, 3 times a week is enough to reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in your life by 40%, according to the National Osteoporosis Society of Great Britain.

5. There is no age limit for running

While other sports have an age limit, runners do not need to stop running if they are too old. A great example is the legendary 70 years old Ron Hill who didn’t lose even one day run from December 1964.

6. It’s a sport for all weather conditions

With cold, rain, sun or wind, you have no excuse not to go out for jogging. Nothing can stop you. If it’s hot then you wear less clothes, whereas put more clothes when it’s cold.

7. The world is yours

Running early in the morning is really a great experience. While the rest of the world sleeps, you arrive first in that beautiful meadow, the empty streets are all yours, you see the sun rising in all its glory. What a great satisfaction to feel!

8. Sleep more and better

Researchers from the Medical School at Stanford University asked people, who have sedentary life and suffered from insomnia, to jog for about 20-30 minutes every day. Those people needed less time to fall asleep and the duration of their sleep increased by nearly an hour.

9. Run in a case of emergency

There are unexpected and dangerous situations in life. Sometimes you must run in order to save your life. How will you manage that if you haven’t trained a bit?

10. Less visits to your doctor

“Moderate exercise make your cells ready to fight any infection,” says Kath Collins, dietitian at St George Hospital in London. In studies conducted by the University of North Carolina, people who jogged for about 15 minutes, 5 days a week, became 50% less sick than those who didn’t.
